Coastal Fiber Arts Exhibit-Astoria

Last Thursday evening Terry O, Janet C, and I drove down to Astoria to see the Coastal Fiber Arts Show at the Clatsop Community College. We were excited to not only see what other Fiber Artists from around the country are doing but wanted to see our fellow student/weavers entries as well. Five People from our school entered the juried show and all five were accepted.

There were over 50 pieces hung but we mainly concentrated on taking photos of the tapestries to bring back to school to show off. The judge, Barbara Setsu Pickett gave a talk and said she wanted the show to be colorful and exuberant to counteract all the depressing news that seems to be everywhere these days. We thought she was very successful in doing so. The organizer, Cheryl Silverblatt, said she had no idea how much work was going to be involved in putting together the show and if she had, she would have gone run screaming the other way. We were terribly grateful she didn't do that. It is a fabulous show and in case anyone out there is interested in seeing it, it runs through the August 18th.

The fifth weaver from school that was accepted into the show was Terry and believe it or not I didn't even know she had a weaving in the show so I never took a photo of it. Sorry Terry.
